An elderly couple was burned to death in their house. Bullet holes still riddle what’s left of buildings. But, in the midst of all this devastation, a Christian left handwritten messages behind on the walls of their ruined home: “I love Jesus” and “Jesus is my Life.”

Forced conversions and circumcision are common themes in Christian narratives.

Women and children, as well as men, have been made to convert to Islam on penalty of death. Rites of circumcision with a razor blade are then carried out to complete the process – without anesthetic. The same blade is used over and over again.

One victim, 32-year-old Christina Sagat told The Sydney Morning Herald: “I feel like I’m no longer complete, both as a person and a woman.”

More than 600 believers were given the choice of death or Islam on the Islands of Kesui and Teor alone. Some who refused to recite the Islamic declaration of faith were killed. In Kesui, Muslims paraded the severed head of a Christian as a warning.

Another woman, Alwina, and her family were attacked while in church. Jihad warriors killed her husband while he held their 4-year-old son in his arms. Today, she says her son is terrified of anyone in Islamic clothing.

The Muslims then tried to force Alwina to convert to Islam. “They wanted me to make a ritual to convert me. They ordered me to take off my Christian clothes and put on Muslim clothes.”
